As many of our regulars are away on their holidays at this time of year, and those who remain seem (not unreasonably) to want to sit in the garden and quaff reasonable quantities of the good stuff, Mark is taking a break from running the quiz until 21st September.

Saturday, August 23rd, 2008 at 8:30pm: Time to dust off your air guitars and join us for live music in the garden from Quo-Caine, the band that has been frequently imitated by Status Quo!!
Just to add even more spice to the event, we've got our famous Curry night menu too!

Sleeve notes: Quo fans are a very loyal bunch, so any attempt to replicate their music would be harshly criticised and the band that had just decided on a name "Quo-caine", were very much aware of this. The band say that they do not attempt to strongly replicate the Quo look, stating "wearing wigs is not the done thing for us" and they feel it would be "too much of a p*ss take". But from an outsider's point of view their attention to detail looks precise and very authentic. It would appear a great deal of time had gone into creating their own replica battered old green and white Fender Telecasters of Francis Rossi and Rick Parfitt. These instruments along with denim jeans, white trainers, a waistecoat and a variety of T shirts are instantly recognizeable to any Quo fan.
The recreation of an authentic sound is obviously the most important aspect to Quo-caine. But don't take my word for it. Judge them for yourself.....

Once again, we're pleased to welcome back Andy Walker on the saxophone for another great evening of jazz. Andy will be playing in the bar on Wednesday 20th February, from 8.30pm - and put the 19th March in your diary for his next return...
The Red Lyon's comprehensive menus have transferred from the black folders to our huge blackboards, getting a big 'thumbs up' from many of our customers. Explaining the move, Leni tells how the blackboards allow him to constantly change and update dishes as various foods come into the peak of their season at particular times of the year. Simon explains that displaying our menus on blackboards allows the Red Lyon to really focus on providing excellent, good quality local food.
Whatever the rationale, our menu is now updated regularly with the very best in fresh, homemade, high quality food. You need to try it soon!

We're pleased to announce the return of the quiz!
Once again, Mark will host his "easy tricky quiz" on alternate Sundays.
This fun quiz is open to everyone and follows pretty much the same format each time to provide a varied set of brain-teasers. The quiz starts at 8pm on alternate Sundays and lasts for about an hour and a half. Come along and form your own team of 3,4 or 5 people. It costs just £2 per person to enter, with all the entry fees forming the prize pot at the end!
We had a huge 'behind-the-scenes' refit today, with just about every aspect of our draught beer system being replaced. This included everything at the cellar end of the operation, a new set of remote chillers, installing a new multi-way cooled pipe system from cellar to bar, right up to a new set of beer taps in the bar. Together with our bar team, a highly skilled team of installers managed this in just under twelve hours from start to finish. We also took the opportunity to add Fosters and Kronenberg to our catalogue of lagers on tap.
